MY IDEALS

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life—think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, and this is the way great spiritual giants are produced. Others are mere talking machines.

I am deeply influenced and motivated by people like Dr. Narendra Jadhav, ex- vice Chancellor of the University of Pune. He is a role model in my success path.

Rahul Solpaurkar, my friend, guide and mentor has always been an inspiration. My entire family, especially my mother has been a role model. The values of hard work and modesty inculcated by my mother have left a deep impact. Guides and friends like Vilas Jeurkar, Sachin Pilagaonkar have always been with me and have motivated me. I attribute my success to qualities like sincerity, hard work and good communication skills. I can work very hard. In the initial days of my venture, I have done things like going around the town in heavy rains putting up banners for my college. Also, I am gifted with an acumen to bond with people. I stoop to their level to reach out to them. For instance, I try to strike a conversation with my drivers, assistants, support staff, students et al. This quality has kept all my people glued to me through everything.

Amit Gorkhe

Amit was born on May 4, 1979 in a village named Mundhwa to Ganpatrao Tukaram Gorkhe and Anuradha Gorkhe.
Mundhwa is a now a growing suburban area in Pune. However, it was just a remote hamlet with limited facilities in earlier days.

In Mundhwa village, Ganpatrao, a lower management employee at Bharat Forge, a paper manufacturing company, lived with his family of five. A cozy unit, the Gorkhes shared a deep bond amongst themselves. The three children of the Gorkhes, Amol, Amit and Ashwini, revered their parents. Amit was always enterprising and worked hard. Later, Gorkhe senior shifted from Mundhwa to Chinchwad, where he joined Greaves. Eventually, Anuradha also took up a job as a teacher at CMS School in Chinchwad. The Gorkhes were put up at Kalbhornagar in Chinchwad. Anuradha always inculcated discipline among her children right from their childhood.

Amit took his primary education in PCMC’s Swami Vivekanand Vidyamandir and completed his secondary education with a first class. Even at a raw age, he realized the need to extend a helping hand to his father, whom he saw slogging for hours to keep his family expenses going. At that time, with all the children studying, Gorkhe senior was the only provider for the family.

Thus, with the thought of helping his family, Amit started working as a newspaper distributor. His routine now included early morning schedules and he would be up and about in the wee hours to take to his new duty. He started dropping newspapers in various parts of Chinchwad and then would go to school. This earned him Rs. 120 per month. Though the money earned was motley and petty, the happiness, satisfaction and the learning that Amit got from this enterprise was priceless. Amol, Amit’s elder brother too was inclined towards sharing the family expenses and ran a snack kiosk by the roadside. The two brothers were only trying to support their parents through the soaring budgets. For a while, Amit also worked as a helper in Rusten Grives company.

Eventually, Amit completed his higher secondary education and graduation from Modern College, Shivajinagar. He completed B.A. with Geography as a special subject with distinction in the year 2000. After graduation, he joined Avinash Dharmadhikari’s ‘Chanakya Mandal’ as he aspired to take up the Maharashtra State Public Service Commission examination.

But life was to take a different turn. While studying at Modern College, Amit started a distinct cultural organization. Himself a theatre enthusiast, he realized the need to provide a platform to young and budding artists from all performing arts and he set up Kalarang in the year 1998 in Chinchwad.

The urge to earn for the family was strongest and Amit set up a small and modest computer training institute for backward sections of the society, at a friendly price in the year 2000. He then started a teacher’s training diploma course under affiliation from the government authorities. He went on to set up the Novel Group of Institutes under which he started a Hotel Management college in 2003, as he realized that his true calling was indeed the education sector, where he could innovatively do things to suit all sections. There was no looking back. Under the Novel banner, Amit further established a degree college where he offered BBA, BCA and D.Ed courses in the year 2006. He then launched the Novel Institute of Management Studies – an MBA Institute in the year 2008.
